ACS Adopt A School

Our plan

ACS Adopt A School's goal was to provide adopted schools with monetary as well as educational aid. ACS Adopt A School provides Dallas-area communities with more productive schools in order to prepare children for the future. ACS provides much-needed support to their adopted schools that goes beyond financial and in-kind technology support -- ACS employees also donate time and talent by mentoring and tutoring students.

What we did

ACS donates, installs, and maintains technology for the schools. They provide career awareness and preparation opportunities through different programs, such as the ACS IT Academy and the World of Work program. Employees donate time to the schools -- reading, mentoring, tutoring, etc. Through a partnership with the Dallas Museum of Natural History, students in Pre-K through eighth grade have valuable hands-on, in-school teaching programs that deliver real-world math and science instruction.

Our results

Students are given opportunities that their schools alone could not provide. The ACS IT Academy, for instance, offers high school students practical work experience in a technology environment while they also earn academic credit. The World of Work program prepares students to make effective and successful decisions in both their professional and personal lives, while assisting them in identifying and competing for marketable positions. ACS has also built three Don’t Quit! Fitness centers, which are located in Pittsburgh, PA; Atlanta, GA and the District of Columbia. The centers enhance the school’s environment with new equipment and give the physical education staff the tools they need to teach.
